When to go, and where to base yourself

Loveland sits about 50 miles north of Denver along I-25, making it an easy day trip or a natural stop on a longer Colorado Front Range itinerary.

Getting There

Where Loveland fits on the map

From Denver

About an hour north via I-25 — the most common way visitors arrive, whether flying into Denver International Airport or driving up from the metro area.

From Fort Collins

Loveland sits just south of Fort Collins, close enough to combine both in a single day if you're touring Northern Colorado.

From Estes Park / RMNP

Loveland is the last town of any size before the highway climbs toward Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park — a natural stop on the way in or out.

Best Time to Visit

Pick your season

Early August — for the big show

If Sculpture in the Park is the draw, plan around the second weekend of August. Book lodging early — this is Loveland's busiest tourism weekend of the year, and rooms near downtown fill up.

Any other week — for a quieter trip

Benson Sculpture Garden's permanent collection and the downtown Art Walk are free and open essentially year-round, with none of the show-weekend crowds or lodging crunch. Weekday foundry tours (Tuesday and Thursday mornings) are easiest to book outside of peak summer travel season.

Where to Stay

Lodging notes

Loveland has a mix of chain hotels along the I-25 corridor and smaller properties closer to downtown and Benson Garden. If you're visiting for Sculpture in the Park, staying within walking or shuttle distance of downtown makes the weekend considerably easier — otherwise, anywhere near the highway keeps you within a short drive of both foundries and the garden.

Where to Eat

Fuel up between stops

Downtown Loveland's walkable core — the same few blocks as the Art Walk galleries — has the highest concentration of independent restaurants and coffee shops within easy reach of the art scene. If you're out at Centerra for Chapungu Sculpture Park, the Promenade Shops area has its own cluster of dining options.
