Best Time to Visit Benson Sculpture Garden

Benson Sculpture Garden holds 188 permanent bronze sculptures across ten free, publicly accessible acres — and unlike a lot of Loveland's sculpture scene, it doesn't revolve around a single event weekend. Here's how the experience actually shifts through the year.

Late spring & early summer (May–June)

Green, mild, and quiet. The garden's landscaping is at its best and foundry tours run on their normal Tuesday/Thursday schedule with no show-weekend crowds to plan around.

Sculpture in the Park weekend (second weekend of August)

The busiest the garden gets all year, by a wide margin. A portion of the garden closes for the show's setup and takedown, and the juried show and sale brings visitors from well outside Colorado. If it isn't, consider visiting a different week — you'll see nearly all of the permanent collection without the crowds.

Fall (September–October)

A strong, underrated window: cooler temperatures than August, still comfortable for a full walking loop, and the crowds from the show weekend have cleared out. Colorado's fall light also does the bronze patinas a lot of favors.

Winter (November–February)

The garden stays open, and snow on bronze is its own kind of photogenic — but check conditions before you go, since paths can be icy and foundry tour schedules may shift around the holidays. Call ahead to confirm a foundry tour is running before you make the trip.

Bottom line: if Sculpture in the Park itself isn't the point of your trip, almost any other week gives you the same permanent collection with a fraction of the visitors.
